Sam Jacobs reviews Round 7 League v Port Adelaide

A great result for the Footy Club on Saturday vs Port Adelaide at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval.
In perfect playing conditions we ran out winners by 86 points. We were able to win all 4 quarters and kicked 5 goals in each quarter and holding Port to 4 goals in the first quarter and only 2 more in the third quarter.
We started the game well but allowed Port to score 3 goals from centre bounce and 1 goal from throw in which was something we needed to clean up, and we were able to for the rest of the game, scoring 1 more from CB and 1 more from transition.
Defensively I thought we did a really good job limiting Port’s offence, and once we were able to slow them down we were able to counter and play some of our most damaging footy for the year and were able to keep the foot on the throat which was positive.
It’s hard to name just a few guys after a strong team performance, but to mention a few, Lukas Cooke did a great job in defence by limiting Cochrane’s influence and getting the ball himself. Big Ballas kicked 5 goal in his first game back and he marked and kicked the ball beautifully. Other key contributors were Punch, Maxy, Herb, Cooky, Peds (his best game for the Club).
We now travel across the city to play Norwood on Sunday which is a great game again for us to test ourselves against a team that is going along very nicely as well.
Looking forward to a lot of support at the Parade.

Kieran Sankey reviews Round 7 Reserves vs Glenelg

A disappointing afternoon against Glenelg saw us defeated 15.15 (105) to 8.6 (54).

There were promising signs early in the contest, particularly through the first quarter and parts of the second, where we were able to own territory, compete strongly and look well connected with our ball movement. However, as the game wore on, we went away from some of our key principles and Glenelg were able to take control across most areas of the game.

The contested side of the match became a major difference as the game progressed, with Glenelg able to outwork us around the ball and maintain momentum for long periods. Once the game began to shift, we were unable to regain enough control to bring the contest back to even terms.

It was pleasing to see Harrison Dawkins perform strongly after returning from the League side, further showing that he is capable of performing at the next level. It was also great to welcome Adam D’Aloia back for his first game of the season following injury. Patrick Toole impacted well and finished with three goals in his first game back in the side.

There will be a strong review of the performance this week as we continue to assess the key areas that prevented us from sustaining our level throughout the game. The positive is that we get another opportunity this week against Norwood to respond and show that we can play our Eagles brand of football for much longer periods than we were able to on the weekend.

Go Eagles!!!
