A disappointing afternoon against Glenelg saw us defeated 15.15 (105) to 8.6 (54).
There were promising signs early in the contest, particularly through the first quarter and parts of the second, where we were able to own territory, compete strongly and look well connected with our ball movement. However, as the game wore on, we went away from some of our key principles and Glenelg were able to take control across most areas of the game.
The contested side of the match became a major difference as the game progressed, with Glenelg able to outwork us around the ball and maintain momentum for long periods. Once the game began to shift, we were unable to regain enough control to bring the contest back to even terms.
It was pleasing to see Harrison Dawkins perform strongly after returning from the League side, further showing that he is capable of performing at the next level. It was also great to welcome Adam D’Aloia back for his first game of the season following injury. Patrick Toole impacted well and finished with three goals in his first game back in the side.
There will be a strong review of the performance this week as we continue to assess the key areas that prevented us from sustaining our level throughout the game. The positive is that we get another opportunity this week against Norwood to respond and show that we can play our Eagles brand of football for much longer periods than we were able to on the weekend.
Go Eagles!!!
