On our Preliminary Final against South Adelaide; we went in with a clear focus to be better around the footy. Early in the first quarter saw us get the ball into our forward line; but missed crucial goals. South on the other hand, were quite efficient and went into the first quarter one goal up.
Second quarter saw us arm wrestle with Rowe kicking a crucial late goal; making us one point up into half time. At half time break we addressed to try and play the territory game a little more. Early in the third quarter we were able to get the ball in quick and direct which saw our forwards play one on one and as a result James Rowe kicked 3 early quarter goals. We finished the quarter full of run kicking 7 goals 2 to 1 goal 1 in the third quarter.
We knew South would throw everything at us in the final quarter; but our ability to maintain pressure and defence and win the last quarter was a credit to the players and their four quarter effort.
Better players on the day were James Rowe and Nick Hayes up forward. A really good even spread throughout the midfield; and Jacob Wehr and Sam Rowland for their defensive efforts down back.
We are looking to forward to playing our first Grand Final in 4 years; and seeing as many Eagle supporters get down to Adelaide to support both our League & Reserves teams.
Well done to Shane Reardon and the U18’s to making another finals campaign; and looking forward to these kids progressing into the senior ranks.
