Eagles Fly To Maiden Title

Premiership Glory For Eagles Wheelchair Team

After falling short in the past two years, our Eagles Wheelchair Football League team broke through to claim the 2024 Premiership – completing a stunning undefeated season!

Emulating our Men’s League team who defeated Norwood back in 1993 for the Club’s first flag, the Redlegs were again the victims for our maiden wheelchair title – Eagles running out 48 point victors, 15.4 (94) to 7.4 (46).

It caps off 10 wins from 10 starts in 2024, and is great reward for the team, whose only focus was silverware from day one of pre-season. Selective recruiting and hunger for redemption after losses in the 2022 & 2023 Grand Finals, players worked extremely hard all year, and justly enjoyed the spoils of Premiership glory together on Friday night.

With an average winning margin of nearly 10 goals per game this season, Norwood definitely came to play in the Grand Final, in a very competitive first half, which saw the Eagles take an 18 point lead into the main break.

But led by inspirational captain/coach Trevor Jarrett (8 goals), along with rock solid defender Soraj Habib, and best on court Cooper Spillane, the Eagles powered away in the second half to seal the 8 goal triumph.

True to our ONE CLUB – ONE CULTURE mantra, our Men’s & Women’s senior players, coaches and staff were in attendance to cheer our team over the line, as well as many of our loyal Eagles family of supporters.

Players will be in attendance Thursday night at the Club for Members Night, so all Eagles supporters are welcome to join us as we congratulate the team on their historic achievements in 2024.
