By ZAC MILBANK

West Adelaide Football Club will be welcomed into the Novita SANFL Wheelchair Football League when season five begins on Friday June 20.

The Bloods, who replace Sturt in the four-team competition in 2025, will be eager to lock horns with Central District, Norwood and reigning premier Woodville-West Torrens.

Each team will feature in nine minor round matches before the season climaxes with the Grand Final on Friday September 12 at the Lights Community and Sports Centre.

‘‘We’re delighted to welcome West Adelaide into the Novita SANFL Wheelchair Football League for season 2025,” SANFL Executive General Manager Football Matt Duldig said.

”SANFL is passionate about providing opportunities for all South Australians to participate in our great game within a fun and inclusive environment.

‘The Novita SANFL Wheelchair Football League provides people living with disability an opportunity to get involved in organised sport, which is positive for their fitness, wellbeing and social connection.”

Introduced in 2021, the Novita SANFL Wheelchair Football League is a mixed-gender competition, open to players with and without a disability.

”We are very excited to be entering a team in the Novita SANFL Wheelchair League for the 2025 season,” West Adelaide Head of Football Paul Streatfield said.

”We are looking forward to welcoming a new group of people to our club so they can play the game they love whilst wearing the red and black.

”As a club we are very focused on being inclusive and we are determined to set the benchmark in this space.

”Over the coming months, we will welcome our first group of players in this team and make key appointments for our coach and support staff as we work towards the season ahead.”

The Eagles will be aiming to defend their inaugural crown this season after last year’s breakthrough premiership while the Bloods, Redlegs and Bulldogs will each be chasing their first flag.

New players are welcome to join the competition in 2025, with Come and Try training sessions to take place at the Lights Community and Sports Centre on Friday May 2 and Friday May 9 from 5.30pm-7pm.

New players, along with Sturt players, will be drafted into each of the four remaining clubs, with Double Blues great Mat Gregory announcing his retirement after winning three competition best-and-fairests, three premierships and representing South Australia at five AFL National Championships.
