Round 11 saw our first wet weather footy outing for the season. We came in to the match with a specific player designed focus and didn’t want to adjust too much about how we want to play.
To the players credits they set and met the focus which was to continue to strive for quick ball movement, bring defensive effort and own contest to allow us to continue to score well. The first half we scored well including a 3 goal second term. The weather was not ideal with teaming rain and blustery winds and we had our first lightening delay of the season with a 45 minute at half time break.
We were able to re-set and re-focus quickly and get back to business. The bigger oval is something we embrace and love being able to run and move the ball. It gives us an opportunity to show our ability to play a fast open style football and when required we also love the contest in and tight.
The football the team played this weekend sets us up well for finals which are now well and truly locked in and we will be ready to play in wet or dry conditions. We ended up winning by 33 points and kicking a decent score for a wet weather day – 44 points (6 goals 8 points).
We now have a well-earned Bye and the players will have a decent break away from the club to recharge and reset for a big last three minor round games. Our U18 squad members will now be unavailable until R14 which we view as an opportunity to see some other players who have been training and waiting patiently in the wings for an opportunity to play.
Thanks to the players families and friends who were out in numbers for our stand-alone game at Elizabeth and hope to see everyone at our R12 game against West Adelaide for our last minor round home game at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval.
Congrats to Sauce and the Men’s for a great win against Centrals – see you at the footy.
