Narelle Smith reviews Round 14 vs South Adelaide

R14 our final minor round game of the season we had a lot to play for. With the minor premiership and a home final on the line we wanted to stick to what has worked for the team all season. We embraced the opportunity to test ourselves against arguably the most successful SANFLW team in South Adelaide.

It was a tight affair right from the first centre bounce and it was an intriguing battle in the midfield with Cutting v Moon who from our perspective the two standout Ruck’s of this season. The midfield littered with young talent from both sides and the contest was tight with each team having their moments of clean ball use from stoppage. It was a game of high stoppage numbers with a smattering of quick outside ball movement where both teams looked dangerous. We were efficient going forward which included an amazing stat of 2 inside 50’s for two majors in the first quarter.

We never gave up our lead including an impressive 3 goal second term. Klaudia O’Neill was catching everything and ended up with 4 goals for the match in another impressive performance. South came at us and it got as close as 1 point at the 14 minute mark of the third term but we were able to settle and get one back 2 minutes later to have a 7 point lead heading into the last quarter.

It was an arm wrestle for the final term. We ran out 8 point winners securing the Minor Premiership and a home final this weekend where we will get another opportunity to play South for a Grand Final berth.

The group is excited, focused and ready to give it our all in our first finals appearance.  We would love to see all Eagles supporters head to our game this weekend and see some new Eagles history.
