Round 2 saw us come in full of confidence off the back of our round 1 win. Glenelg facing a 0-2 season start we knew they would be a formidable opponent. We started the match with some early goals and let the bays get a goal late in the quarter but held an 8 point lead at the first break.
Our second quarter saw us pile on 3 goals and we were in total control of the match all over the ground holding a 21 point lead at the main break. The bays came out in Q3 and held us goal-less and added two majors of their own. We had our opportunities kicking 4 points with some gettable moments passing us by.
As we headed home in Q4 we held a 12 point lead with a fast finishing tigers outfit coming at us. They were proving hard to contain with their two main midfielders in Bates and Kellock running riot in the middle.
At the 12 minute mark when the opposition goaled and we all tied up at 39 points apiece it had a repeat vibe of R14 last season but to our credit we showed that we have matured and learned lessons from our previous close losses. We held our nerve stuck to the game plan and executed when needed. Imogen Trengove who continues to grow with every match came from outside our F50 and ran through an ambush of tigers to kick a goal on the run for us to regain the lead by a straight kick. We then showed composure controlled the ball and found our way back inside our F50 in the dying minute of the game.
A clever around the body kick from Rosette Zerella to find Brianna Walling in a 1 on 1 deep in the goal square resulted the Glenelg defender infringing and Walling completed the match by kicking a goal after the siren to secure a hard fought 12 point win.
As always we will review the game with plenty of learnings as we move forward to Round 3. Our last game at Eastern Parade Reserve looks to be a cracking contest between the also undefeated Centrals at 12.30pm Saturday 29th March. The vibe of EP is one to get around hope to see you all at the SANFLW.
