Round 3 saw us come up against our old foe in Centrals for our last game at Eastern Parade Reserve. Once again we started well and used the breeze to get a nice buffer heading in to the first break kicking 4.4 and restricting Centrals to 1 goal. The second quarter we battled hard into the wind but only managed to kick 2 points and allowing the opposition to kick 1.1.
We had learnt our lesson from round 2 and were determined to not let the dogs back in to the game and went on a goal scoring frenzy. Kicking 8.2 a whopping 50 point quarter, led by young gun Imogen Trengove who was everywhere and kicked 3 goals of her own. We now hold the record for the highest score in a single quarter of SANFLW in the history of the comp and ironically have pinched that from Centrals who previously held the record.
It was a proud moment for our Women’s program and showed we can kick scores quickly, with good ball movement and good decision making. For the last quarter with the wind in our face we defended the lead well and our backline led by Zahlia Niemann were desperate and measured in how we managed the repeat entries.
Even though the Dogs had 8 scoring shots with our high pressure all over the ground they only managed to kick one major. We ran out winners by a margin of 54 points and now stand alone on the top of the ladder having won our first three matches.
This week we return to Maughan Thiem Kia Oval playing in a quad header with our mens sides against Norwood. We are excited to keep this early season momentum going and so proud to wear the retro guernseys and represent the past well. Rosette Zerella will play her 50th SANFLW game against her old side which should add some spice to the clash. We appreciate all the support and would love to see a big crowd at Maughan Thiem KIA Oval.
