Narelle Smith reviews Round 4 vs Norwood

Round 4 is fast becoming a favourite round as we celebrate our history as a club and the SANFLW program is super proud to wear both the Torrens and Woodville guernseys as a part of the clubs Retro Round. Our first match back at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval is always great and we had heard some narrative about our ability to manage the bigger oval and were keen to play well and score well.

The first half against Norwood was an arm wrestle and they certainly came to play. The scores were even with only 1 goal apiece and we felt we missed some shots we should have nailed. We led the inside 50’s and were down slightly on disposals but the stat we focused on was our tackle numbers down at half time the challenge was thrown to the players to build our offence from our defensive pressure. Our game is based on whole of the ground pressure and turn that in to scoring opportunities.

Q3 was where we showed our ability to put the foot to the floor and score quickly. With 4 goals scored we started to move the ball the way we want to and got the game on our terms. It was pleasing to see Rosette Zerella in her 50th game against her old side impose herself on the game and she was pivotal in the win scoring 4 goals of her own including the first and last of the game. Each and every player continues to stand up and have moments within the game. With two last quarter goals and held the opposition goaless for the remainder of the game running away as 38 point winners. We now have a rest and reset week with Gather Round and get ready for a big Good Friday clash against West Adelaide at Richmond where we will look to keep our good form going.
