Sam Jacobs reviews Round 1 League vs South Adelaide

A positive 4-quarter effort to start the year was a great result and the credit must go to the players on their execution, beating South Adelaide at Noarlunga by 52 points.
It was important we got off to a good start playing and while we enabled South a few inside 50s early, we were well positioned and defense their entries well. After the first 10 minutes we start to get our game going putting on 6 goals before South got their first at the 19-minute mark of the 2nd, a credit again to our team defence.
Throughout the first half we didn’t take all our chances and the players owned that we need to take our chances when they present as it leaves the door ajar, South kicking 2 goals before half time, and one on the siren with a nice kicked from the boundary which gave them some energy.
It was important for us to start the 2nd half well and we kicked a goal in the first 50 seconds with a clever goal from Max Beattie. I was happy with the boys as we finished the game strongly and won all 4 quarters.
Better players on the day were Max Beattie (30 touches at 95% KE, 5 goals, 12 score involvements and 2 tackles), Ethan Grace in his first game (31 touches at 80% KE, 2 tackles, 7 rebound 50s and 8 score involvements), Sam Rowland who gets better with age (22 touches, 5 tackles and a goal), Ted Clohesy (24 touches, 3 tackles and a goal), Harper Montgomery (25 touches at 78%, 3 score involvements and a tackle).
Congratulations to Ethan Grace, Ted Clohesy, Harper Montgomery, and Harvey Pedler playing their first games for the club, as mentioned above, all contributed strongly to our performance.
Special mention to the supporters as we had a strong representation at Noarlunga and it was certainly appreciated so thank you.
Quick turnaround before our first game on Easter Thursday at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval vs the Crows. Love to see a great showing to kick start our long weekend with hopefully a win.

Kieran Sankey reviews Round 1 Reserves vs South Adelaide

South Adelaide proved too strong in Round 1, with our side going down 5.11 (41) to 15.6 (96).

South Adelaide were able to control the majority of the game, applying their system consistently across four quarters. While there were periods where we were able to break even and generate some ascendancy, our execution errors and turnovers placed us under significant pressure defensively. At times, our willingness to defend did not meet the standard we expect, which allowed South Adelaide to capitalise.

We showed in patches that when we play the way we want, we are capable of competing strongly. However, the key for us moving forward is consistency in how we apply our game across the full four quarters.

From an individual perspective, Bailey Hann led the way with his competitiveness around the contest and ability to drive the ball through the midfield. Patrick Weckert showed positive signs in his return from injury as a key forward, finishing with 1.4, while Harry Dawkins impressed in defence following his exposure at League level during the trial matches, looking composed and reliable.

We face South Adelaide again on Thursday night ahead of our League clash with the Crows, and we will be looking to respond with a stronger, more consistent effort.

Go Eagles!!!
