While the 67 points isn’t where we want to be, with where we have been, we were right in the game until the midway point of the 3rd quarter when some of Glenelg’s class shown through and they were able to take their half chances which put us under pressure.
The first half (and the second quarter especially), we bought the heat and out tackled Glenelg, and we were able to put them under real pressure and also convert on the scoreboard. The third quarter going into the breeze our contest fell away, and we lost too much field position which proved to be a challenge. The last quarter I thought Glenelg maintained their level of play and we dropped off to disappointingly lose the quarter.
I thought we took a step forward and showed that our best is good enough to compete with the best, but we need to work on being able to do it for 4 quarters.
Better players on the day were James Rowe (29 and 2 goals), Max Beattie (25, 1 goal, and 1 bounce gone wrong opportunity), Connor Ballenden (13 and 2 goals), Kobe Mutch (29 and 7 tackles) and Jordan Lukac (10 touches, 37 hitouts @ 37% HAD).
I want to make mention of Brody Mair (8 touches and 2 goals) who did a defensive job on Max Proud (13 touches), and Jordan Tilbrook who defended really well on Matt Allen and has shown he can compete well at League level.
We had a lot of Past Players come along to the game, which was great, the connection to our club is so strong and it was great to be able to host them.
We take on Sturt next week, and it’s always good to test yourself out against the ladder leaders at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval.
