In a tough battle against Norwood at home on Saturday we walked away with a 75-point loss but a lot of learnings around where we need to get too. We showed in patches of the game that our best is good enough, but we need to extend this for longer periods of the game. In a burst of 35 minutes from the 18-minute mark of the 2nd quarter until the 3-quarter time siren we lost 12.2 to 0.3, which is down by 71 points, and you can’t give any team that level of dominance, let alone the ladder leaders. The boys rallied in the 4th quarter to equalise the game which we can take confidence from heading into this weekend.
We didn’t have a lot of winners on the day, but Joe Sinor led the way as he always does, emerging leader Zane Williams has been putting a lot of work into his game and is getting the rewards by finding ways to impact the game when things aren’t going our way. Developing forwards Jack Wheare and Lukas Cooke both had moments in the game where I thought with 14 games between them, hit the contest hard and converted on the scoreboard.
We will move on relatively quickly as it is exciting to qualify for the finals after an indifferent year, but it’s called a season and because of the way we started the year we have got some reward at the end. There have been some challenges throughout the season, but the boys have always fronted up, got to work and wanted to get better, and we are looking forward to taking on Glenelg at Adelaide Oval Sunday 12:15pm.
I want to say congratulations to our Reserves team, coached by Shane Hancock, who have had a good year finishing in 5th spot too with 9 wins and 9 losses. We have a good mix of youth and league experienced players in that team and there is no limit on where they can get too. Also, well done to Shane Rearden and the Under 18s who will also play in a final this weekend, shows our future is bright.
See all the members and supporters out in full force this weekend.
