Sam Jacobs reviews Round 19 League vs North Adelaide

Finally, it was nice to break a losing streak and get back on the winner’s side in a gritty 3-point win over North Adelaide. Even though I would prefer to not go through our recent form line, it was great to see a smile on the players, coaches, and supporters face at the end of the game.

We started the game well heading into a slight breeze but didn’t look after the footy and too many intercept marks which made it hard to get field position, out contest was strong, and we had our hands on the footy but went in down at quarter time. The second we lost the contest, but we were able to maintain control of the uncontested game and put some scoreboard pressure onto North by leading by 7 points.

The third quarter was disappointing, we knew North would come out and respond, especially with a breeze behind there back, but we were able to hold them for most of the quarter before losing some control on the game in the last 10 minutes, we had some work to do ahead of us as we went in down by 16 points.

In a dead rubber game and with nothing to lose, I put the challenge to the boys to start well, enjoy the challenge and use this as a positive way to finish the year, and the players did that, winning the quarter 3 goals to 0. We were able to take our chances around the ground and convert when we needed too.

Better players on the day were Rowey, Max Litster, Lukas Cooke, Nick Hayes, Herb and I thought Jordy Lukac was pivotal when the game tightened up.

I will get to more thank you’s at the Best and Fairest, but I want to say a big one to our members, partners and supporters for standing by us this year in a really challenging season. We finish the year beating 7/9 teams, and pushing Glenelg to 4 points, this validates that we are on the right path if we can be more consistent next year.

We support Shane and the reserves, Chesty and the under 18s now as they have an elimination final at Noarlunga and Unley this Saturday against Sturt and Central respectively.
