A good win against Adelaide on Thursday night got Easter off to a great start. Whilst we were in control for most of the night, we were never able to put them away properly, as shown in the last quarter when they closed the margin to 4 points in time on before we were able to thankfully kick away.

While the indicators were strong for most part, we let the Crows score goals off the back of some errors and then they also started to get their game going when the game got hot. I was proud of our growth in being able to manage the fightback and then get the result done. I think this is a step forward in our development.

Better players on the night were Joseph Sinor, whilst it wasn’t a complete job, we identified Blake Drury as an important player for them, Choc kept him to 4 touches for the night whilst also having 18 of his own. Kade Herbert had his best game for the season with 24 touches, 8 tackles and 3 goals. Max Beattie back up last week’s performance down South with 21 touches, 6 score involvements and 3 goals. Ethan Grace and Lukas Cooke both had strong games in the back half for us and repelled a lot of their forward 50s and then helped springboard our attack off that.

We now break for Gather Round, with the State game at Glenelg on Saturday, and then we are back playing last year’s premiers Sturt at Unley Oval which will be a great test to see how much we have improved.

Kieran Sankey reviews Round 2 Reserves vs South Adelaide

A disappointing fourth quarter led to a scoreline of 7.6 (48) to 15.7 (97). However, we did have an improved performance across the first three quarters.

Our response to round 1 was strong early, with the group bringing far better effort and defensive intent to the contest. For three quarters, we were able to match South Adelaide and compete in what was a much more even game.

While our pressure and effort lifted, some costly skill errors and turnovers continued to hurt us, allowing South Adelaide to score more easily than we would have liked. The game slipped away in the final term, where South kicked 7.2 to our nil, as we weren’t able to maintain the same level of intensity or regain control.

Cody Duncan was a standout up forward, finishing with 3.2 and providing a strong aerial presence and leading target. Bailey Hann again showed great competitiveness through the midfield, while Harry Dawkins continued his impressive form in defence, taking 10 marks and looking composed behind the ball.

We now have a break to reset and continue working on our consistency, particularly with our ball use and ability to sustain our defensive effort across four quarters.
