UNDER 18s
The Under 18s opened our season against Sturt on Saturday night with a narrow 6 point loss. The game was played at The Summit Recreation Park, in very hot conditions at Mount Barker.
Both teams were pretty evenly matched and at quarter time the scores were level at 2 goals 3 points each. The Blues outplayed us in the second term as we spent a lot of the quarter on the dead side of the ground and were unable to goal whilst Sturt kicked 2 to take a 12 point lead into half time.
We reset at half time and the players responded very well and although we generated plenty of scoring chances we kicked inaccurately scoring 3 goals 9 points for the quarter whilst Sturt kicked 4 goals and they retained a 10 point lead at three quarter time.
Once again in the last we generated scores but kicked 3 goals 5 points and whilst we clawed our way to a lead Sturt to their credit kicked the last 2 goals to close it out.
All players gave their all in hot windy conditions and we had many good players. Jack Cook, Zane Peucker and Jevan Phillipou gave us plenty of drive through our midfield, Logan Hughes did well with 4 goals as a key forward, Hayden Willmott and Lachie Sands did well and Joel Hill was a strong running defender for us.
Importantly we debuted 7 players with Ethan Ashley, Noah Ah Chee, Jack Leys, Mitch Harris, Mitch Macdonald, Jack Slattery and Elliot Stubing all playing their first games of under 18s footy and all contributed.
We look forward to playing Glenelg this week at Hisense Stadium (Richmond) from 4.20pm.
