The Under 18s played their first game of the 2026 season last Thursday night, losing to Glenelg by 40 points.
In the first quarter whilst we generated forward 50 entries we could not capitalise and the Tigers took a 27 point lead into quarter time. Better scoring efficiency in the second quarter allowed us to get back into the game with 3 goals and we were able to square the quarter.
Glenelg took control of the game in the 3rd quarter with a 5 goal quarter and we were well behind at three quarter time. The players ran the game out well and kicked 4 goals to one in the last quarter to go down by 40 points, 7 goals 8 points to Glenelg’s 12 goals 18 points.
We didn’t have a lot of winners but Jack Marks in ruck was a good player for us and Blake Karpany was a very lively midfielder/forward with 2 goals. Noah Atkinson (2 goals) and Lachie Marshall-Bates competed well in the air and Will Trengove was another who worked hard and found a bit of the footy. Seb Cavallaro tried very hard in defence for us.
Importantly we were able to play 10 players who played their first ever game of Under 18 footy – Will Trengove, Harry Scholes, Lucien Kravinskis, Tommy Lucas, Harvey O’Brien, Connor Rugari, Perry Szklarz, Noah Atkinson, Michael Daly and Hudson Walsh.
All had some good moments and we are looking forward to them continuing their footy development with us.
This week we take on Sturt at home from 12.50pm and we are looking forward to building on our first game experience.
