UNDER 18s
The Under 18s had an exciting win against Sturt on Saturday in our elimination, 1st Semi Final.
Like everywhere on Saturday a strong wind favoured the south east end of Thomas Farms (Unley) Oval, although throughout the match both teams were able to kick goals to the northern end. Sturt despite kicking into the breeze kicked 5 goals in the first term to take a 9 point lead into quarter time with our inaccuracy hurting us. That inaccuracy continued to haunt us, hitting the same post 3 times in the second quarter although we defended much better and restricted Sturt’s scoring – the scores at half time were Eagles 4 goals 8 pts to Sturt 7goals 1 point – an 11 point margin to the Blues.
Our turn with the wind again in the third quarter but it was Sturt who started the quarter strongly – at one stage their lead got out to 17 points before we responded well, kicking the last 3 goals of the quarter to take a 3 point lead into three quarter time.
The stage was set for an epic finish and so it was with both teams gaining and regaining the lead – a Jack Gray mark and goal at the 21 minute mark put us back in front and we were able to hold on for an exciting win.
Everyone contributed when they needed to and we were led by Jack Cook, Kade Herbert and Jett Hasting in our midfield who all worked tirelessly in and around the contest, Griff Hansen competed well in ruck all day, Oskar Kilpatrick and Jack Hankins led our defence with strength and Ray Sumner was always lively around our forward 50 with Jack Gray kicking 4 good goals on a tough day for scoring.
This Saturday we play Glenelg in a Preliminary Final at 1.40pm at Stratarama Stadium after our Development Grade.
