UNDER 18s

The Under 18s fought out a tough 1 point loss on Saturday, with the Double Blues victorious kicking 8 goals 4 points to our 8 goals 3 points.

Kicking with the aid of a breeze we didn’t quite take advantage of the opportunities we created and scores were level at quarter time 2 goals 3points each. We were defending well early in the second quarter and kicked the first goal but Sturt then kicked 4 unanswered goals to take a 19 point lead into half time.

We attacked well in the 3rd quarter with the breeze, kicking 3 goals but the Blues kicked 2 of their own so we got to three quarter time just 11 points behind.

We played a courageous last quarter into the wind where we kicked 2 goals and held Sturt to just 2 points to go down by the barest of margins.

We had some very good players and Harry Dodd in our midfield (35 possessions and 2 goals) and Tate Delmenico in our defence (27 possessions, 9 intercept marks) were outstanding all day.  Owen Harley-Brown was also very strong in defence well supported by Jack Hankins and Tom Luck making his return from long term injury, battled away well in ruck.

This week we played Jack Mumford in his first game of Under 18 footy after a long term injury had kept him out of the game and he did well with 2 goals up forward.

With the bye this week we are looking forward to our next game on August 10 playing West Adelaide at Hisense Stadium in the annual Jake Watson Shield game, an important event in our footy calendar.

UNDER 16s

Going down to Sturt by 77 points 2 weeks ago, the lads were keen to restore some pride in their performance this time round.

Kicking with the breeze in the first quarter we were able to open up a margin of 13 points at the first change. The second quarter and our best quarter for the game with some good run & carry into the breeze we were able to kick 4 goals 4 points to Sturt’s 1 goal 1.

In the past we have had good quarters and halves so the challenge for the second half was maintaining the level of intensity and pressure. And they did kicking 5 goals 5 to 3 goals 3 for the second half, running out victors by 8 goals.

Jack Marks played well in Ruck, rotating Forward, kicking 4 goals, Tate Wolthers won a lot of footy thru the midfield, Romario Clemente presented well up forward and kicked a goal himself, Ben Adam in the Back pocket read the ball well and rebounded Sturts attack. Tahj Madigan at Centre Half Back won some good contests against his opponent and Hayden Grieger created some good space up forward kicking 2 goals himself.

Others to hit the score board were Tommy Lucas with 3 goals, Seth Hadley playing his first game kicked 1 with Jensen Frantz from half back also chipping in with 1 goal. Coby Bigg who had a bad Ankle injury with Seth also played his first game.

A bye this week and then we look forward to taking on West Adelaide the week after at Hisense.
