Villi’s U18s & U16s Match Report

Sponsored by VILLI’S FAMILY BAKERY

UNDER 18s

The Under 18s played in a high standard game against Central Districts on Saturday, losing by 14 points.  We started well and although we were behind on the Inside 50 count we took our chances and held a 14 point lead at quarter time. The Dogs had a stronger second quarter and held us to just the one goal whilst kicking 3 themselves and we had a 1 point half time lead.

Most of the third quarter was good but a costly lapse in the last 5 minutes where we gave up 3 goals meant we faced a deficit of 20 points going into the last quarter. We took the game on in the last quarter and got within 8 points but the Dogs kicked the last goal to secure the victory.

James McGorman was a tower of strength on the last line of defence, Charlie West (2 goals)  was a strong forward presence and in the ruck, Jevan Phillipou (2 goals) worked hard in our midfield along with Zane Peucker, Jamie Russell-Swansson was a good small forward with Ray Sumner (2 goals) and Oscar Pearce played a couple of roles as a key defender and ruck and finished with 2 goals.

We have a 2 week bye now and we will next play on 29 June against North Adelaide at home from 2.30pm.

UNDER 16s

After a strong couple of weeks with our effort, intensity and contest, this week was unfortunately a different story and Centrals showed why they are sitting on top of the ladder after 10 games.

Trailing by 49 points at half time, the lads could have easily thrown in the towel and the game could have become a total loss. But to their credit they showed some character and spirit during the third quarter and we matched Centrals in kicking 3 goals 4 points.

Our second half performance was obviously much better than the first half. Kicking 4 goals 4 to Centrals 7 goals 6. The players got a good taste of what is required to play at the next level and will hopefully draw from that when we play again after the double bye.

This week Khye Maddern, Jai Stokes, Zack Lloyd, Jack Marks, Tahj Madigan and Tate Wolthers had some good moments. With single goal kickers to Tommy Lucas, Tate Wolthers, Mason Dohnt and Khye Maddern.
