Our last minor round game saw us come up against Norwood – the team we will be facing in this week’s Grand Final.
We saw it as another great challenge, given 2 of our starting 5 players were absent due to national basketball duties. Simon Albury played his first full game and did a fantastic job, playing alongside Wayne Hale in defence against 2 very experienced opponents.
This gave Adam Roocke a chance to control the game in centre, providing the link between our defence and attack. Steve Edge and Trevor Jarrett again showed why they are the most dangerous forward combination in the league, with 4 and 8 goals respectably.
The 29 point win not only sewed up the minor premiership, but it gave us a perfect 9-0 record for the season.
Our development team unfortunately came up just short in their final game, but again competed extremely well, especially considering that Norwood played a number of their league team in the match. We finished the season 7-2 and saw some incredible improvement in our players, who will no doubt be pushing for league selection in 2025.
Friday night now brings what we have worked so hard for as a group. I couldn’t be prouder of our team, who have played and trained tirelessly since February to achieve one goal – a premiership for this great Club.
It would be fantastic to have a sea of Gold, Green and Blue support in the stands on Friday night, to cheer us on for what we hope is our historic first flag. We will leave no stone unturned and will give everything that we have as a group to hopefully make you all proud.
Go you mighty Eagles.
