As the regular season comes to an end, the members and supporters were informed last night that club greats Matthew Goldsworthy and Luke Thompson had told the club and players that season 2024 will be their last. The lasting imprint and legacy that these two boys have had on our club are profound and will last forever. Their achievements speak for themselves, but we will all agree, the people that they are is what we are most proud of. To Thommo’s family, Caitlin, Lacie and Teddy, and Goldy’s family, Taylor and Oscar and both boys extended family, we thank them for the important role they play in supporting the players and picking up the slack when they put so much time into their footy.
Looking back to the Port game, again we come in at ¼ time up on the scoreboard (in the 6 losses, at ¼ we have been in front for 5 and even in the other) and playing how we want to then fall away in the 2nd quarter and be up against it at half time. Our poor 2nd quarters are putting a lot of pressure to play perfect footy in the 2nd half and we know that is hard to do in such a strong and even competition. There is a growth and learning element to this, but also we need to put our heads down, grit and get to work. We have clarity going forward on what we need to do, but it’s time for action.
This week against South is another opportunity and they have been in good recent form winning their last 2/3, but we are playing for our season, and I expect that we go to Flinders University Stadium and put in a strong 4 quarter performance that we can be proud of.
There was strong support at Alberton on Sunday which was great to see. Stick with us and know myself, coaches and players are disappointed and putting the work in to turn this around as quickly as we can, starting this week.
See you this weekend.
