Sam Jacobs reviews Round 12 League v West Adelaide

A disappointing result at Richmond Oval on Saturday, going down to West Adelaide by 42 points.
We started the game well scoreboard wise, winning the first quarter by 7 points. West were able to score a goal at the end of the quarter which closed the gap to 7 points. It was pretty even around the ball and we were prepared that it was going to be a tight tussle across the day.
The 2nd quarter and 3rd quarter we were outplayed. I thought they ran and spread harder from us at the contest and we weren’t able to respond as there scoreboard pressure continued. Defensively we needed to tighten up as they gained control of the ball and then when we did win it back we weren’t able to move the ball with the ease that we did at times in the first quarter.
The last quarter was a bit of a dour affair as the game was effectively over. West winning the last 3 quarters of the game 10.5 to our 2.4. We take away some learnings from this and are looking forward to playing North Adelaide this week.
Better players were Jordy Lukac, Connor Ballenden, Jack Cook, Pat Weckert and Riley Knight.
Want to mention a well done to West Adelaide Football Club for preparing facilities that I thought were fantastic considering the challenges they have had after significant damage from the rains earlier in the year.

See you all at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval on Saturday.

Kieran Sankey reviews Round 12 Reserves vs West Adelaide

The Eagles held on for another thrilling victory on Saturday, defeating West Adelaide 9.7 (61) to 8.12 (60) in a hard-fought contest at Richmond Oval.

For much of the afternoon, the game was a tight battle, with West Adelaide challenging us through their high-tempo ball movement. Pleasingly, we were able to be a little more efficient with our ball use going forward, creating enough quality opportunities to stay in front throughout the contest.

As has been the case in recent weeks, the game came down to the final minutes. Our ability to win some critical moments late proved decisive, allowing us to hold on for another narrow but well-earned victory.

There was plenty to like about our performance. When we executed our ball movement efficiently, we were able to challenge West Adelaide’s defence, and our intent to defend remained strong throughout much of the day. At the same time, we know there is still improvement to come. There were periods where our decision-making with ball in hand let us down, and at times we were outworked defensively. While it’s pleasing to come away with the two points, we know greater consistency at both ends of the ground will be the key to continuing our progress.

Brodie Mair was outstanding, finishing with 23 disposals, seven score involvements and a goal in a best-on-ground performance. Ethan Ashley also continued his outstanding run of form in defence, once again nullifying his opponent while providing calm and effective ball use from the back half.

We now turn our attention to North Adelaide at home next week, where our focus will be on continuing to build consistency in both our offensive and defensive game.

Go Eagles!!!
