In our first game on Friday night, we came up against 3-time premiers Sturt. We started well scoring the first 3 goals of the game, but towards the end of the 1st quarter we turned the ball over allowing Sturt to score 2 quick goals. Whilst we were still up on the score board, the turnovers were costly. From the 2nd quarter on-wards we displayed our game plan better and stuck to it for the rest of the match, resulting in a 24 point half time lead and an eventual 62 point win.
The most pleasing aspect was that we had a complete team effort and even contribution from all players. Special mention to our new players, Cooper Spillane and Kane Downie, who both contributed enormously and fitted in brilliantly. We have Centrals this Friday night and if we play to our game plan, I’m sure we can make it two from two.
A new feature to the SANFL Novita Wheelchair competition, is a Development side playing a shorted two 10 minute half game prior to the League game. This was played and pleasingly we recorded a 2 point win against Sturt, with Alex Kouts scoring the winning goal in the final minute. It is a great initiative of the SANFL to allow players to try Wheelchair Football and hopefully will encourage more players to play the game. Congratulations to newcomers Dani Hale and Luke Hale on fine games.
