Goodlife Round 1 Women’s Match Report V Centrals

Round 1 saw us blood 7 debutantes against a strong Centrals side.

After successful trials we went into round 1 excited about the young talent we have coming through. With three quick goals to Centrals early we regrouped, kicking two including one to debutante Astrid Gooley, to bring the margin back to 6 points at quarter time.

The second quarter saw veteran Eagles Jovanka Zecevic and Annie Falkenberg settle into their strides and influence the match around the contest. Tash Holmes also started to get her hands on the footy in front of goals and young speedster Shineah Goody started to attack the goals in the FWD 50. Unfortunately we were unable to capitalize with the margain pushing out to two goals.

Although not reflected on the scoreboard the third quarter was tough, with Centrals entering the fwd 50 eleven times in the quarter. The backline stood tall with Jamie Parish, Lili Gambranis and Zahn Anthony working hard to hold the dogs back. Chloe Whitington-Charity also worked hard in the third, presenting well and showing plenty of speed up forward.

Although we had more of the footy in the fourth Centrals were able to hit the scoreboard, adding three in the last to run out 26 point winners. We look forward to a big match next week against West Adelaide at Hisense Arena.
