Firstly congratulations to Jade and the league on becoming Minor Premiers over the weekend.

This a great achievement for the club. Our Reserves took on Central’s in a top of the ladder clash at X Convenience oval on Saturday. The game brought a big challenge to our group and one we were looking forward too. The game started well with our pressure being really strong and we were able to maintain the ball in our forward half.

Jamie Coff in his first game back from injury took a strong mark and finished with a goal to reward our pressure and give us an early lead. We were unable to sustain this and against a quality side like Central District you have to be at the top of your game for 120 minutes to be in with a chance. They were able to punish our errors in the back half of the quarter and take a lot of momentum into the quarter break. We reset ourselves and adjusted some things at the quarter time break and came out with lots of energy early in the second quarter, led by Aron Asfaha. Unfortunately, Aron sustained a serious leg injury during this quarter and we wish him all the best in his recovery. The second quarter became an arm wrestle as both teams traded goals and Central’s took a 2 goal lead into half time.

Our third quarter was disappointing as we dropped off significantly and allowed Central’s to kick multiple goals. Playing 4 quarters of football has been our focus for the past few weeks and will be again as we head into finals. We saw some strong games from players returning from injury in Ethan Haylock and Jamie Coff, whilst Jack Firns displayed his trademark pressure and attack the contest. Tom Schmusch was also our best defender on the day.

We have performed well enough over the course of the year to finish second on the ladder which gives us the opportunity to play Central’s again next Saturday in a semi-final. As a group we can’t wait for this opportunity and look forward to seeing a few Eagle’s fan out there!
