Round 7 U18 Match Report

The Under 18s had a tough win against West Adelaide on Friday night, in the annual “Jake Watson Shield” game.  Both sides had a real crack in tough conditions, which really honoured the occasion of commemorating four your men who’s lives were too short. Westies got out to a 9 point lead at quarter time although we did have our chances kicking 6 points. In the second quarter we adjusted to the conditions better and were able to kick 4 goals and another 6 points and we held a 20 point lead at half time.  West hit back immediately in the third term with early  goals and the game was in the balance but we were fortunate to kick a goal in the last minute to have a

15 point advantage at the start of the last quarter.  We played well early in the last quarter kicking 3 goals before Westies hit back with 2 late ones to make it a 21 point margin in our favour at the end.

A lot of players contributed to the win and  Caleb Poulter, Jase Burgoyne  and Max Litster continue to lead the way with their midfield efforts, complemented by Harry Dawkins with his strong attack on the ball and Zac Phillips working hard to give our mids an advantage with his ruck work.  Our defenders played well with Dustin Launer and Ryan Williams defending well and giving us some drive from the back half. Kicking goals was a hard thing to do so Jay Watson did well with his 2 goals from his forays forward.

As we have done every week, another 2 players were given the opportunity to play Under 18s and Pat Fry and Callum Pitman both did some good things on debut and contributed to the team’s result.

We make the half way point of the season with 4 wins and 3 losses and we have a great challenge this week against South Adelaide at home from 11.30am on Saturday.
