SANFL STATEMENT: EASING OF COVID RESTRICTIONS

Monday, July 26

SANFL will await further advice from the State Government on the easing of restrictions in relation to sport before making any announcement about a resumption of football training and matches in South Australia.

SANFL CEO Darren Chandler said the League was currently working with SA Health to ensure a safe return to activity across all levels of football after the lockdown.

Mr Chandler said it was pleasing that Premier Steven Marshall today acknowledged the importance of community sport resuming and winter sports being able to complete their seasons safely should the current low rate of COVID-19 community transmission in SA continue.

“Our focus continues to be aligned with the advice of the State Government, ensuring the health and safety of our participants and wider community remains paramount when we return to play,” he said.

All SANFL State League competitions, Talent Programs, SANFL Juniors, Auskick, Community Football (senior and junior; metro and regional), SANFL Schools competition, Wheelchair Football, Inclusive League and SANFL APY League are currently postponed due to the seven-day state-wide lockdown.

Mr Chandler encouraged everyone in the football community to continue to adhere to State Government directions and do the right thing to ensure football could resume as soon as possible.
