Sam Jacobs reviews Round 13 League v North Adelaide

A great response from the boys after a loss the previous week, running out 36 point winners vs North Adelaide at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval.
It was great to score a goal inside the first minute of the game, and whilst we came in at 1/4 time down I thought our game was in ok shape, we just have a few too many free kicks against which results in goal. When we entered our forward 50 we did look dangerous thought, scoring 3 goals from only 5 inside 50s.
In the second quarter we start to play better, but every time we scored a goal, we then leaked one at the other end which meant we went in at half time trailing by 2 points. I thought if we could tidy up some of our defensive efforts that we would be ok and in turn we could win back some field position.
In the third quarter we played some outstanding high pressure and territory footy which is what the conditions demand and I was really proud of the boys efforts as we kicked 5 goals to 0 and put ourselves in a good spot to win the game. The goals came off the back of some defensive efforts and we celebrated each other and the goals which was a real positive. The last quarter we were able to win as well kicking 2.1 to 1.1. Both teams began to fatigue after a big day in tough conditions.
The better players on the day were Ted, Slads, Knighta, Jett, Choc, Nick and the major goal kickers were Slads with 4 and Nick with 3.
We have put ourselves in a spot where we can really give Sturt a good crack at home this week. We have a lot of respect for them as a club and they always prove to be a strong opposition.
See you all Saturday at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval.

Kieran Sankey reviews Round 13 Reserves vs North Adelaide

A heartbreaking finish saw us fall by two points to North Adelaide at Woodville Oval, with the visitors kicking the winning goal in the final two minutes to claim a 9.4 (58) to 8.8 (56) victory.

For much of the afternoon, we were in control of the contest. Across the first three quarters, we were strong around the contest, owned territory and consistently generated inside 50s, allowing us to build and maintain a lead of around 20 points. Pleasingly, we looked dangerous whenever we were able to move the ball with speed and efficiency, continuing the progress we’ve made in that area over the past month.

The final quarter, however, belonged to North Adelaide. Their intensity around the ball and ability to maintain territory saw them record thirteen inside 50s to our three in the final term. That sustained pressure eventually created enough opportunities for them to overturn the margin and take the lead in the dying stages.

It’s a disappointing result given how much there was to like throughout the first three quarters. We demonstrated the style of football we want to play for long periods, but in challenging conditions, even small lapses in concentration or execution can quickly change the momentum of a game. Our challenge now is to produce that level of consistency across all four quarters.

Kobe Mutch was outstanding in his first game of the season after a long-term injury, showing his quality around the ball and putting himself firmly into consideration for League selection. Adam D’Aloia again thrived in the tough conditions, winning the football both inside and outside the contest, while Tate Delmenico produced another sound performance in defence.

We now look ahead to Sturt at home again next week. With similar conditions expected, maintaining our consistency for the full four quarters will be critical, as games like these are often decided by the smallest of moments.

Go Eagles!!!
