The Under 18s lost our opening round to Sturt at Unley Oval, losing by 40 points. We started slowly and Sturt had 3 goals on the board before we scored but we clawed our way back into the game over the next 3 quarters, at one stage getting out to a 3 goal lead in the 3rd quarter. Sturt kicked the last 3 goals of the quarter though and kept their momentum going into the last quarter to record the victory.
Importantly we were able to give 7 players their first game of under 18’s footy this week and Adam D’Aloia, Lukas Cooke, Hunter Carter, Harry Dwyer, Nathan Barkla, Oscar Mansell and Jordan Lukac all proudly wore the Eagles guernsey for the first time.
We didn’t have a heap of consistent winners across the ground but Adam D’Aloia (10 clearances) Cormack O’Reilly and Dustin Martin battled away well in our midfield and Lukas Cooke (11 marks and 2 goals), Will Pearce (2 goals) and Sam Nicholls worked hard in our forward line.
So to this week and we play Glenelg for our first home game and we are looking forward to playing a better 4 quarter effort this week. Congratulations to the league and reserves for their winning start and well done to the Eagles Womens’ team on their fine season to date
