Sponsored by VILLI’S FAMILY BAKERY

UNDER 18s

The Under 18s had a good win against Glenelg on Saturday, defeating the Tigers by 17 points.

We began the first quarter well and was off to a good start with the first goal but Glenelg hit back with 3 goals in just 4 minutes to skip out to an early lead. We traded goals for the remaining of the quarter and went into quarter time 12 points down.

After an early Tigers goal the margin got out to 20 points but in the end it was an even quarter as we started to defend and compete well with both sides kicking a little inaccurately with 1 goal 4 points each. The margin remained at 12 points at the main break.

We played some very good footy in the third quarter kicking 6 goals 4 points and holding the Bays to just the one goal although they did have some chances with kicking 6 points as well. Holding a 16 point lead at three quarter time setting the game up for another thrilling finish.

The Tigers attacked relentlessly for the first 13 minutes kicking 2 goals 7 points in that time to get within 3 points. For the last 10 minutes we held sway defensively and started to keep the ball in our half of the ground and kicked 2 good goals to finish the game 17 points ahead.

We had quite a few contributors throughout the day with Noah Ah Chee and Jack Leys (2 goals) giving us great drive from their wings, Zack Lloyd (11 tackles), Hunter Rowe (6 Inside 50s)  and Romario Clemente (10 first possession wins) were strong contributors in our midfield with Michael Daly also competing well in ruck.

Jack Marks was a big focal point up forward with 4 important goals and Khye Maddern was another who was busy up forward for us.

This week we were able to debut Cooper Wurfel who did some very good things for us on his wing.

With the competition bye this week we will re-set ourselves for our next game on Saturday May 23rd where we take on Glenelg again at home from 11.15am at Maughan Thiem KIA Oval.

UNDER 16s

Round 7 saw probably our biggest challenge to date facing Glenelg at Stratarama Stadium

With another 2 first gamers game into the side this week we welcome Nate Mercer and Hudson White for their first taste of SANFL Under 16 Footy

The group showed strong resilience and commitment across the game, with our defensive effort standing out throughout the entire match.

Our backline continued to improve its positioning and communication, helping limit opposition opportunities and kept us competitive for long periods of the game.

While there were promising passages of attacking football, consistency remains an area for growth, with the group still working towards combining strong defence and efficient ball movement at the same time.

Several players produced impressive individual performances, particularly through their pressure, work rate, and composure in a tough game well done to Joel Lipson, Lachlan Macaitis, Hunter Mumford, Luke Flaherty, Brodie Steer and Campbell Woolford.

The team’s competitiveness around the contest and willingness to work for each other were positives to build on, with continued improvement evident in both decision making and structure across the game.

The Final score being Glenelg 15.17 107 to 2.5.17, with Nate Mercer and Ashton Remphrey kicking a goal each.

We now have the week off where the players are able to rest and recover, in which we get another opportunity in 2 weeks time against Glenelg again, this time at Maughan Thiem Kia.
