UNDER 18s

The Under 18s had a very good win against Glenelg at Hisense Stadium on Saturday, winning a tight game by 15 points.

Both teams started well and after exchanging goals early we kicked the last 2 of the quarter to take an 9 point lead into quarter time leading 4 goals 4 points to 3 goals 1point.

The Tigers really got on top of us during the second quarter kicked 5 unanswered goals and got their lead out to 20 points before Jack Cook kicked a great captain’s goal late in the quarter and we went in at half time 12 points adrift.

Our third quarter was full of merit and we kicked the first 2 goals of the quarter to get within a few points but Glenelg again scored a late one to take a 10 point lead into three quarter time. It was set for a great finish and we came out hard kicking then first 3 goals to take the lead for the first time since the first quarter and eventually we kicked 5 goals for the quarter to Glenelg’s one goal and we closed out our first win of the year.

We had an unchanged team this week which gave us some stability and we had many good players. Jack Cook, Zane Peucker and Jevan Phillipou all gave us a lot of drive from the midfield, Freddie Wilson rucked well and was a presence around the ground, Lachie Sands was dynamic on his wing, Dougal Ashby and Mitch Macdonald were very good in defence and Jack Slattery and Logan Hughes were good forward targets with 3 goals each.

This week we have Central District at X Convenience Oval on Sunday at 11.50am in what I am sure will be another great game.

UNDER 16s

After trials against South & West, the Under 16 team kicked off its season against Glenelg at Hisense Stadium Oval on Saturday evening.

We started strongly in the first quarter, kicking two goals in the first four minutes, however momentum quickly turned Glenelg’s way, with Glenelg having the next ten scoring shots, kicking 3 goals 7 behinds.  A late goal in the second quarter gave us some confidence as we went into half time only 7 points down.

After half time, we opened well and kicked 3 goals in 7 minutes, gaining some self belief as well as maintained a high level of tackling pressure and using the football more bravely through the corridor, we opened up a lead of 18 points at three quarter time.

Glenelg were desperate in the last and responded, to point where scores were level within 10 minutes to goWe defended strongly and produced several opportunities to kick goals late in the game however we could only manage three behinds.  In the end, this was all that was needed, winning by that margin.

Jack Smans, Lucien Kravinskis and Mitchell Haley played well thru the Midfield, Jack Northeast and Hamish Wildbore defended well and Fraser Baker contributed well up forward

Will Andrea kicking 3 goals, Hugo Thyer 1 goal & Noah Atkinson 1 goal provided a focal point. With Hensley Bonney Tucker and Pharrell Prokos contributing with a goal each as well.

Overall, it was a pleasing team effort, as we look forward to taking on Central Districts at X Convenience Oval next Sunday.
