Sam Jacobs reviews Round 5 League vs North Adelaide

Was a positive day at Prospect with a 4-quarter effort leading to a 69-point win vs North Adelaide.
In challenging conditions, I thought the players adapted well to whatever was thrown at us with it being windy and wet throughout the day. We were able to put early scoreboard pressure on North which is always good to start this way. Our tackling pressure was a highlight with us being +16 in this stat at quarter time. To North’s credit I thought they worked back into the game in the 2nd but they couldn’t get scoreboard pressure on, we were able to win the quarter 2.1 to 1.5.
After half-time I thought the boys came out and executed well, we made a few adjustments but the staple throughout the day was the pressure we put them under. In the 3rd quarter we were +7 for tackles and +7 for contested possessions so we won the footy but also pressured them as well.
In the last quarter we had our aim to simply win the quarter as North has been a fast-finishing team this year and we were able to win the quarter by 11 points.
Better players on the day were Ted Clohesy, Riley Knight, Jack Hayes (6 goals), Jordan Lukac, and I thought Max Litster had his best game for the year.
With a 6 day break ahead of Glenelg back at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval, we look forward to testing ourselves against one of the premier teams over the last decade.

See you all Saturday

Kieran Sankey reviews Round 5 Reserves vs North Adelaide

A strong final quarter helped us edge past North Adelaide by a single point, holding on for a 7.12 (54) to 7.11 (53) win.

It was an even contest for much of the day, with both sides working hard to gain control. We felt we were able to own the contested side of the game, which gave us a solid foundation across the four quarters. While our effort around the ball was strong, we were not able to move the ball efficiently enough through the middle of the ground to consistently create our best opportunities going forward.

Despite that, it was pleasing to see the group make the most of limited opportunities. From just 30 inside 50s for the game, we were still able to put a competitive score on the board. In the final quarter, we were able to take the game on a little more, which helped us edge in front by the final siren.

A really pleasing part of the performance was the way the group responded in key moments. After last week’s narrow loss, there was clear growth in how we handled similar late-game situations.

There is still work to do around our efficiency and connection through the middle of the ground, but the effort and ability to maximise limited opportunities was very encouraging.

Jack Slattery was a standout forward of the ball, finishing with three goals and taking a sensational high-flying mark on the members wing. Blake Hansen, Harvey Pedler and Will Pearce were all strong contributors through the midfield, while Jay Watson brought great energy and pressure in the forward half.

We now look ahead to Glenelg this week, where we will continue to focus on improving our ball movement efficiency. We’re confident that will allow us to apply even greater pressure to the opposition and keep building our game.

Go Eagles!!!
