North coming off a great win against the reigning premiers we knew they would be up and about. That is exactly how they started the game and we were left in the gates being convincingly beaten in the first quarter with North kicking 4.3 to our zero leaving us with our work ahead of us. In true SANFLW Eagle style we clawed our way back into the game holding our oppo to a single point in the second quarter and kicking 3.4 of our own. North wouldn’t go away and we struggled to put the game to bed allowing 2.2 against us in the third quarter and kicking 1.1 ourselves. Unfortunately we lost two players with injury, Bri Walling with a rolled ankle and Maia Freemantle after a heavy body knock.
Q4 we kicked truly on three occasions in comparison to North who under great backline pressure only managed 3 points. Pleasingly our back half ball management under pressure was good and we were able to secure the 2 premiership points with an 8 point win. As with all games plenty to improve on and learn but plenty to be excited about as we continue to win on our terms and win in a gutsy fashion. Importantly we do it as a collective.
Key Forward Klaudia O’Neill continues to put her hand up as the best tall Forward in SANFLW kicking 3 majors and it was pleasing to see Cher Waters playing her 50th SANFLW game kick two of her own. We always have such even contribution across the board which makes us a connected and committed team. We now have a bye with the State Round being played in Perth. Join us at the footy for SAFNLW R5 at the Bay to take on Glenelg who we will not underestimate.
