We took on Port Adelaide under lights at Alberton Oval in perfect winter footy conditions and went down in a real disappointing performance by 24 points.

We were able to score a goal inside the first 3 minutes of the game which was positive, but from then on in the first quarter it was hard going as we didn’t look after the footy and were slightly down in all key stats, down by 6 points at 1/4 time.

In the second we started the quarter slowly but felt in the back half of the second quarter we were able to fight back to only lose the quarter by 2 points, but went into half time feeling like we can set ourselves for the 3rd.

The third we were able to again fight out way back and get it back to 1 point late but were unable to get our noses in front, with Port knocking over 2 big goals before the 3 quarter time siren and taking away any momentum we had won back.

In the last we were able to get field position well early, but again we couldn’t convert and then Port went down the other end and scored a goal and the game was effectively over.

There wasn’t many winner in their positions on the night, but mentions to Ballas who I thought competed well, Ted gave his all like he does every week and Luka tried hard in the ruck and around the contest and also was able to hit the scoreboard in the last quarter.

We now have to sit on this performance for a bye before we take on Glenelg and set ourselves for a big 4 week block to finish the season.

Kieran Sankey reviews Round 15 Reserves vs West Adelaide

Our Development team produced our most complete performance of the season on Saturday, defeating West Adelaide 17.7 (109) to 5.8 (38) at Richmond Oval.

After several weeks of close contests where we had allowed opposition teams back into games, the challenge to the group was simple – produce a four-quarter performance. While we held a two-goal lead at half-time, we spoke about not going into our shell and continuing to trust our method rather than protecting the scoreboard.

The response was outstanding.

We kicked 10 goals to one in the second half, with the players showing great commitment to our game plan and the way we want to play. While the contest was tight early, we felt that if we could control the game with our offence, it would allow us to defend more effectively. That proved to be the difference, as our ball movement enabled us to own territory while limiting West Adelaide’s ability to generate the run and carry they are known for.

What was most pleasing was the consistency of our performance across all lines. Our intent to defend, our discipline around our method and our willingness to stay connected for the full four quarters were at a level we’ve been striving for throughout the season. It was a reward for the group’s persistence and belief in the process.

Jet Hasting was outstanding through the midfield, finishing with 30 disposals and leading the way around the contest. Seth Harris was also highly influential alongside him through the middle of the ground, while Oscar Pearce had a significant impact playing forward and in the ruck, kicking three goals and proving difficult to contain.

The performance reinforces that we are capable of challenging the best teams in the competition when we consistently play our brand of football. We now head into the bye with confidence before returning to face ladder leaders Glenelg, another opportunity to test ourselves against one of the competition’s benchmark sides.
