Heading to Glenelg on the weekend we were looking for a more consistent four quarter effort than over the previous month.

The group had another strong week on the training track and they’re working hard on their individual performances and team defense. Both teams started with intensity and effort with only one goal separating the sides at quarter time. This however was short lived as Glenelg went on to pile on a number of unanswered goals in the second term. There were a number of uncharacteristic errors during the 1st half of football and these are errors that the players and coaches are working very hard to tidy up.

After half time we started the quarter with a Poole and Foote head clash which was a positive turning point. This symbolised that the group wanted to fix our mistakes from the 1st half of football. We’d been beaten at the contest all day until this point of the game. In the 4th quarter we started to implement the strategies that we wanted to do from the start and got positive results from. Nick Hayes got some isolation and our 3 key forward kicked 4.3 between them in the last quarter. In the last we had 13 inside 50’s and had 11 scoring shot finishing the quarter kicking 6.5.

Angus Poole played with passion and desperation for his club and was a highlight for the team. Jesse Lonergan finished with 12 clearances leading the midfield to another clearance battle win. Jordan Foote, Jack and Nick Hayes all performed very well.

The positives after 6 rounds is the amount of inside 50’s we’re getting per game averaging 50.6 per game and currently sitting 3rd over all in the competition. This is also on average allowing 23.6 shots at goal per game (3rd in the competition). Unfortunately the breakdown is the efficiency at goal kicking far more points than goals in season 2019. This then puts our defence under significant pressure due to the amount of rebound football the opposition get.

Leading in to the Bye we’ll be working hard support the players with the right tools to support our team defence.

Round 7 is a big game for our club and I hope to see you all there supporting our club.
