Rel’s Review – Round 5

Narelle Smith reviews Round 5 vs West Adelaide

Our first legitimate home game for the Season 2024 always felt like a big occasion. Having fallen well short against South for our Captain’s 50th the previous week we set ourselves to play a better style of footy.

This week saw another stalwart of the women’s program in Sophie Zuill play her 50th game and it is pleasing to say we didn’t disappoint.  It was one of the games where we looked switched on from the start.

Being our last week to have Shineah Goody, Taylah Levy and Lily Tarlinton amongst the ranks we wanted to farewell them to AFLW in style. All three had amazing games and they weren’t alone.

Annie Falkenberg stood tall behind the ball along with all the Defenders, the synergy with the back 5 was clear today with a stellar defensive day.  Maddie Turner came into the League mid and was relentless all day earning herself the ‘burner’ award for her performance.  Lily Tarlinton had been threatening to kick a bag for a few weeks and with great delivery and aerial prowess she delivered with a fantastic 4 goal haul.

She was not alone in the front half with Amie Blanden, McKenzie Dowrick and the tribe of smalls making it hard for the oppo defenders.  It was a full team performance that we have been seeking and as we head to the bye for Gather Round, we will reset for another full day against North in R6.

Thanks to our wonderful supporters who showed up and as a program we were ecstatic to have been able to perform at the level required.
