Round 4 Match Report Reserves V Prospect

The reserves played away to North Adelaide last weekend at Prospect and found a really strong challenge from a resilient North Adelaide side. The opening quarter was very tight with goals both ways to each team but a couple of late goals to us through Zane Williams and Harry Morgan on the siren gave us a 2 goal edge. As we were kicking with the breeze in the first quarter we felt the game was really even and probably needed to slightly lift our intensity to maintain our advantage. We held really strong in the second quarter to maintain our lead but still hadn’t played our best brand of the footy. Credit though must go to North Adelaide as they had a really strong back line repelling our entries. Coming out after half time the players were confident with the breeze that we could put some strong pressure on North Adelaide and impact the scoreboard. We were able to do this with repeat forward 50 entries and our midfielders taking the ascendancy to give us a 6 goal lead at 3/4 time. The last quarter we were able to do enough to hold off North Adelaide who kept coming all day to win by 17 points. Whilst disappointed to lose the quarter we were happy with our ability to slow the play down when required and halt North Adelaide’s momentum. We had a lot of really good contributors for the entire game but particular mention should be given to our smaller backs in Will Mcpherson, Connor Mcleod and Ben Jungfer who all provided plenty of rebound from half back and desperate defense when required. Nick Moore was really strong up forward and provided many contests up the ground against taller opponents while Harry Morgan was polished in his three goals. Congratulation also to Shaun McNeily and Aron Asfaha who in the last two weeks have played their first reserves games for WWTFC. Lastly well done to Jade and the league side in a sensational win over the previously undefeated North Adelaide league side. We look forward to the challenge of Glenelg at the bay this weekend and hope to come away with another two wins for the football club.
