UNDER 18s

The Under 18s suffered a narrow loss to Sturt at Thomas Farms Oval on Saturday, losing a low scoring game by 4 points – Eagles 8 goals 10 behinds to Sturt 9 goals 8 behinds.

It was a tough and tight contest all day with Sturt holding sway at all the breaks.  When they slipped out to a 25 point lead mid way through the 3rd quarter things did look a little grim but we fought back well and got the margin back to 19 points at three quarter time.

We dominated field position in the last quarter with +13 Inside 50s and held Sturt scoreless, but unfortunately we were only able to kick 2 goals 3 points and the Blues held on.

With State trials on we made more changes and this week we welcomed Flynn Young, Tain Mathie, Max Farrugia and Kayne Hodges (2 goals)  from our squad who all played their first games of Under 18 footy and also Lachie Marshall-Bates came up from the Under 16s for his first game. All the boys acquitted themselves well and it is exciting to see these boys get and take their opportunities.

Our next game is on Wednesday 22 May against top of the ladder Glenelg at their home ground so a great challenge awaits us.

UNDER 16s

This week we ventured out to Thomas Farms Oval to take on Sturt at Home.

With three new players making their debut, Tahj Madigan, Connor Rugari and Bradey Woolford getting their opportunity to experience Footy as SANFL Level.

Unfortunately for us Sturt jumped out the blocks early and kicked the first 6 goals and took a handy lead at quarter time by 37 Points. We were able to weather the storm during the second quarter in which we kicked 1 goal to Sturts 2. A 45 point margin at half time suggested we had some work to do.

We had some good moments during the second half but unfortunately couldn’t find ways to score, congratulations to Sturt who were much better than us on the day and went on to win by 76 points.

Connor Rugari, Tahj Madigan and Hamish Watson kicked One goal each. With Hunter Wellgreen, Riley Henneker, Riley Miller, Tate Wolthers and Zack Holdsworth having some good moments.

This week we look forward to taking on Glenelg on Wednesday evening at the Bay on May 22.
