Rell’s Review – Round 7

Narelle Smith reviews Round 7 v Central District

Second time playing Centrals this season and knowing we always have great battles we look forward to playing them. Centrals had some noticeable absences and we knew this can sometimes bring in the ’nothing to lose’ factor so we wanted to start well. It was a tight affair and we did ourselves no favours by missing multiple opportunities in front of goals that could well have been majors. On the flip-side Centrals were efficient and kicked 3 straight up to three quarter time with the score all tied up us with 2.6 and Centrals 3 goals.

The deck had some heavy traffic with the triple header and us being the third game for the day. Our last quarters continue to be good and we were able to hold Centrals scoreless Q4 and kick 2.1 to secure the win.  Our young group continues to have even contributors across the ground and impress the coaching group every week. Our back group were solid as always, the mids worked through heavy CB conditions and our forwards battled hard all day and hit the scoreboard when it mattered.
We now are half-way through our season and happy with our efforts so far. We now have a bye that will be great to refresh and come back ready for the last half of our season – our State U18 will now play their matches being unavailable for R9 & R10. This will throw some challenges at the group whilst also presenting some opportunities for other players to put their name forward on the selection table. It was a great vibe at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval and thanks to the supporters who stayed around to watch the W team.
We will play our next home game on June 27 – hope to see you all there.
