Sam Jacobs reviews Round 9 League v Central District
Well what a game of football.
In what was a really up and down day, we we’re all very pleased to end up on the right side of the ledger, beating Central District by 6 points.
The first quarter we just did not come to play, and credit to Central they put some real heat on us and if not for some bad kicking from them, the margin could have been even bigger. We were beaten around the contest and stoppage and we just couldn’t get the ball past halfway. Even though we gave the first goal up of the second quarter I felt our intensity was a lot better, from that goal we started to get or game going and slowly worked our way back into the game.
The third quarter was where we made our move, kicking 4 goals to zero to take a 4 point lead. We started to use the ball better but credit to our midfield who got on top around the contest and we started to own some territory. The final quarter we started well but Central got the first goal on the board and it was game on, we rallied but when Central kicked a goal again at the 18 minute mark we needed to respond and we did, kicking the final 2 goals of the game to run out winners.
Best players on the day were Ted Clohesy, Kade Herbert and Jordan Lukac through the midfield, with Zak Buck kicking 3 goals to be our major goal kicker.
In a great weekend for the club, we went 5/5, winning U16s (their first win for the year), U18, Reserves, League and Women’s League. We also celebrated the 2006 Premiership team, and was great to see old teammates!!
