We hit the road for the first time this year and witnessed one of the great players and a genuine leader of our club, Scott Lewis, play his 200th game. Unfortunately, the result didn’t go our way.

With a few players missing from the Round 1 team due to injury it gave opportunity to one of our exciting young eagle talents, Kysaiah Pickett. Kysaiah kicked his first goal in league football, nearly took mark of the year and I’m confident there’ll be many more highlights to come from this young man.

The first quarter was an arm wrestle with both sides wasting a number of chances in front of goal. At the end of the 2nd and 3rd quarters we led a number of key stats and yet still couldn’t find a consistent score source. Leading in to the 4th quarter we were 25 points down with only 27 points registered on the scoreboard. Jake Von Bertouch was sent forward after 3 quarters in the backline in an effort to find another avenue to goal. Immediately Jake had an impact kicking 2 goals in the first 10 minutes followed by the team adding a further 30 points to hit the lead late in the game. We’d left our run too late to get our brand of football back on track and lost the game by 7 points in the final minutes of the last quarter.

This loss has allowed us to recognise some areas for growth. It is certainly a game that the playing group will be able to draw on throughout the season.

Jarred Redden was a positive highlight for game with the big man backing up his round 1 performance and Matthew Goldsworthy was also at his best. Jordan Foote, Jack Hayes and Scott Lewis in his 200th fought hard all day having plenty of impacting moments.

Next week we take on the Adelaide Crows at home and we’d love to see you all there!
