Goodlife Round 1 Reserves Match Report V Sturt

Sponsored by Goodlife Health Clubs

The Reserves began the season at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval with a strong win against Sturt.

Other than the warm conditions, it was a perfect day for footy and we had 6 new players to the Football Club make their debut in the team this week.

Round 1 is always a bit of an unknown but we were confident that our best footy was in front of us. We started the game strongly; kicking the first two goals and eventually kicking 5 goals for the quarter to Sturt’s 1 goal. This included goals to debutants Jack Wheare ( 2 goals) and Cooper Sharman (4 goals).

Our defence was playing strong and keeping position despite our dominance further afield. We were able to maintain this momentum for the entire game and several players had really strong games. Mitch Hardie, another debutant was our best afield and also kicked a goal, Nick Moore in a new role in the midfield played one of his best games for the football club including two goals. Zane Williams also showed he is ready to increase his career tally of league games kicking 3 goals up forward and maintaining strong forward pressure.

Overall for the whole game we had 10 different goal kickers highlighting a strong team performance.

Congratulations to Jade and the league team for also kicking off the season with a win. Whilst the U/18s and Womens teams didn’t get a win we know they will bounce back in their next game.

We move to Glenelg this weekend which as a club will be a great test for us and we can’t wait to see as many Eagles supporters as possible at Glenelg Oval to cheer on the boys.
